Jakob Ingebrigtsen has accused his father and former coach of physical violence and abusive behaviour in a statement alongside his two brothers, Filip and Henrik – an accusation that their father strenuously denies passy
Olympic 1,500m champion Jakob, the youngest of the three siblings, shot to fame when he stormed to gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 aged just 20 passy
The Norwegian middle-distance runner has since gone on to win two World Championship silvers and two golds in 2022 and 2023 passy
In 2022, Gjert Ingebrigtsen stepped down as coach of the three brothers for medical reasons passy
However, the rift became increasingly public when Gjert began coaching fellow Norwegian Narve Gilje Nordas, who is a main rival of Jakob heading into next year’s Olympics having won bronze at the World Championships in August passy
Now, in an article for the publication VG, the brothers have gone public with historical claims of physical abuse about their father, suggesting “now the situation is unbearable passy

We now realise that is not possible,” the statement said passy
“This matter has become so inflamed and has had such a great consequence that we feel a responsibility to clean it up passy
“We have grown up with a father who has been very aggressive and controlling and who has used physical violence and threats as part of his upbringing passy
We still feel discomfort and fear which has been in us since childhood passy
“Somehow we have accepted this passy
We have lived with it, and in adulthood we have moved on passy
At least we thought so passy
In retrospect, we realise that it was naive passy
But two years ago, the same aggression and physical punishment struck again passy
It was the drop that made the cup run over passy
”As well as guiding Jakob to Olympic gold, Gjert also coached both older brothers to the European 1,500m title passy
The three brothers and their father had a very public relationship as the stars of a Norwegian reality TV show, Team Ingebrigtsen, but the trio now say they don’t have the “capacity or desire” to interact with him passy

In a statement released by his lawyers, Gjert has strenuously denied the claims, saying: “The statements they make are baseless passy
I have never used violence against my children passy
That I have had weaknesses as a father, and to a great extent been a coach, is a realization I have also come to – albeit far too late passy
“I’m far from perfect as a father and husband, but I’m not violent passy
First and foremost, this is a tragic situation for my family – we have reached the point where we are spreading false accusations against each other in the media passy
It makes me deeply unhappy passy

Richard Thompson hopes to make cricket “the most inclusive sport in the country” after seeing a new state-of-the-art venue open in Bradford passy

5million, 10-bay all-weather cricket dome opened at Bradford Park Avenue cricket ground on Friday, the first of its kind anywhere in the world passy
The facility features two 40 x 20-metre covered domes with lighting, a real-life like cricket surface and a retractable netting system which fully replicates the features of an elite indoor facility, allowing for both training and matches to be played passy
Funded by the England and Wales Cricket Board in partnership with City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, the new facility could provide cricket sessions for around 10,000 people from the local community annually passy
ECB chair Thompson is excited by the opportunities that the facility could provide for boys and girls in the area, and to open the sport up to ethnic minorities passy
He told the PA news agency: “It is essential passy
It is everything passy
My ambition for cricket is for it to become the most inclusive sport in the country passy
“You’ve got to do that by taking barriers down passy
This is a community facility, anyone can play here passy
“So if people wants to play in Bradford they can, whatever the weather and whatever the day passy
So from that perspective, we need to replicate that fast because there are other areas where it is just as great passy
But Bradford is a hotbed of enthusiasm for cricket so this is the obvious place to start passy
”Previously, Bradford Park Avenue had an outdoor nets facility but this will now enable local cricketers to play all year round and in any weather passy
The investment is also good news for Yorkshire, who were punished for their handling of allegations of racism and bullying by former player Azeem Rafiq and a failure to address systemic use of racist and discriminatory language over a prolonged period passy
Thompson now hopes the facility can help restore pride to the club passy
He added: “Hopefully this gives Yorkshire the sense of pride and a feel-good factor back passy
“They can say we have the first facility of this type anywhere in the world, it is truly world class and in that sense there is no county that needed it and deserved it more passy
“The ECB couldn’t be prouder, the partnership we are in with Yorkshire, the council, local MP, all of that to pull this together passy
Things like this have a lot of moving pieces to them but now to see it built is absolutely outstanding passy
The new facility is the first to be built in the world but the ECB does not want the good work to stop here after sites in Luton and Walsall have also been identified to build something similar passy
Thompson said: “We are putting one into Walsall, and have identified three or four other sites passy
“It is incredibly exciting for Bradford but probably even more exciting for the game passy
I’m particularly pleased that this has come from Bradford Park Avenue and Yorkshire passy
A hotbed of interesting cricket, it’s the first facility of its kind anywhere in the world and it’s not very often you can say that passy
